  Responsible for providing system engineering and software development for National Missile Defense and Theater Missile Defense systems using Parallel Discrete Event Simulation technology to develop wargame simulations. Also responsible for providing data reduction, analysis, and visualization tools and system engineering for missile Hardware-in-the-Loop Test evaluation. Positions included Deputy team lead for a 10 to 20 person project.

• HNSX Supercomputers Inc. - Sr. Marketing Analyst/Benchmark Analyst

  Responsible for the porting and optimization of potential customer's benchmark codes in support of sales procurement activities with over $40M of revenue potential, and development of any necessary software routines or libraries necessary to port application to target architecture and obtain maximum performance. Participated in long-range strategic planning of future products and services for the North American market and development of materials and classes for customer training. Taught several training classes at customer sites. Responsible for design, installation, and maintainence of corporate World Wide Web Home Page using Java language and numerous Unix scripting languages, including Perl, C-shell, and Tcl/Tk.

• Cray Research Inc. - Competitive Analyst

  Established the Competitive Analysis Department of the Marketing Division in order to provide competitive analysis support and information to sales, marketing, corporate executive, software, and hardware personnel. Responsible for departmental budgeting and consistently completed yearly tasks under budget. Duties also included tracking and reporting of trends in the computer industry for all competing vendors, participating in long-range strategic planning of future products and services, developing programs for display and analysis of marketing data, and porting and optimizing benchmark applications.

• Martin Marietta - Software Engineer

  Lead member of team responsible for providing software support for a number of real-time projects at a research department of Martin Marietta. Designed and implemented real-time driver software for an interface between a Cray supercomputer and an Elxsi minicomputer via an industry-standard bus. Interfaced with hardware engineers to design, implement, and test the interface. Designed and implemented a FORTRAN-based I/O handler to provide data to a suite of real-time simulation applications on the Cray computer.

• Ford Aerospace - Senior Software Engineer

  Oversaw activities of 15 employees as a Team Leader. Responsible for the design, implementation, and integration of system control programs which provided services for application programs (APs) and the interfaces between the AP's and a real time executive and MVS. Designed programs which controlled routing of work between APs and between IBM mainframes. This included routing authorization security checks. Designs included B and C specs, Data Flow Diagrams, and Structure Charts.

• Cray Research Inc. - Senior Programmer/Analyst

  Responsible for system installation and on-site customer support for first Cray Research customer. Member of 2-person team responsible for acceptance of system resulting in first ever revenue for company. Duties included: 1) Development of new software for inclusion in operating system; 2) Member of team developing user interface software for magnetic tape subsystem and a security system for the Cray Operating System; 3) Assigned to locations in Germany and Japan responsible for installation, acceptance, short-term support, and on-site analyst training for first Cray systems delivered to those countries, resulting in excess of $25M in revenue; and 4) As Regional Analyst, responsible for installation and acceptance of first Cray systems in Petroleum market, resulting in excessof $50M in revenue.

• Experience also includes work as a programmer/analyst on a variety of projects:

1. Member of development team responsible for design and implementation of real-time control software for rail-dynamics system
2. Team member on the World Wide Military Command and Control System project, which was a major upgrade of an important NORAD system with responsibility for designing, coding, and testing of a routing program to reside on a minicomputer and handle message traffic between a mainframe system and up to 28 CRT consoles, an interrupt handler for a communications link between the minicomputer and the mainframe, a real time queue driven dispatcher, an I/O handler, and a program to produce geographic displays
3. Member of the Viking project team responsible for some of the landed science modules, support software, microcode instruction and interrupt handlers, and part of the terminal descent phase program for the Viking lander.

I have experience in aerospace engineering (including eight years as an AI Consultant). I have a degree from the Colorado School of Mines in Engineering. Beginning in 1997, I worked with Mr. Talbot doing research, software development and system integration for decision support tools focused on military and intelligence community customers. After retiring from Northrop Grumman in 2011, I founded EllisInterstellar LLC. and collaborated on a book, "Applications of Artificial Intelligence for Decision-Making", and received awards for many predictive analytics papers in the intelligence and medical fields.


• I used a 3D terrain visualization package myself and a fellow student developed in college to visualize huge amounts of radar data for the Mars Viking Lander descent phase.
• While at Cray Research I was an on-site analyst at the National Center for Atmospheric Research during which I helped vectorize and parallelize a weather forecasting model on a Cray Research supercomputer and developed numerous applications for the Cray.
• I also provided benchmark results of optimized high-performance applications and provided performance reports on competitor's systems.
• I was also responsible for software support for Cray installations in the U.S., Japan, and Germany and was the Regional Operating System Analyst in the Western Region of the U.S.
• In other domains, I led the software effort to find patterns in complex datasets for Missile Defense scenarios for the Air Force and developed deep-learning belief network software to predict missile launches, terrorist activity and adversary intent.
• I was co-inventor on three patents: General Purpose Evidence Fusion Engine, Automated Discovery of Unknown Unknowns and a Knowledge Base Comprising Executable Stories.
• I provided software results for predicting individual longevity using a Case Based Reasoner, bio-terrorism, and the success of clinical trials and has experience with integration of large software prototypes, analysis of parallel discrete event simulation in wargaming environments, implementing an expert system based Simulated Commander, development of novel decision-oriented display technology, and using the internet to draw evidence from the open world to the closed world for use in Belief Networks.

Dale Gardner was the last of six astronauts to use the manned maneuvering unit (MMU) jetpack as he worked to return two malfunctioning satellites to Earth. Gardner flew twice as a mission specialist aboard the orbiters Challenger and Discovery in August 1983 and November 1984, respectively. Gardner departed the Navy to accept a position with TRW, Inc. in Colorado Springs as a program manager involved in the development of both civilian and military space and defense high technology programs. I had the pleasure of working for Dale at TRW on the military space and defense program.
